Nashoba Conservation Trust's

Stromsted Property

Mt Lebanon St. (1/10th of a mile northwest of Birch Hill Rd.)

The Nashoba Conservation Trust's Stromsted Property features a lovely and fairly easy (there are some hills in the trail) mile-long loop around Birch Hill (and the private houses along Birch Hill Rd.), through a mixed woods of white pine, oaks, sugar maples, and hickories. A nearby pond, visible from a serene granite bench on the northeast side of the trail, often offers glimpses of painted turtles, green herons, scarlet tanagers, and tree swallows, as well as an occasional deer or raccoon.

(The granite bench pictured above overlooks a pond near where the main trail, or West Trail, joins with the North Trail about 1/2 miles from the trailhead. The North Trail adds about 1/4 mile to the loop, running parallel with the West Trail but near a field and marsh instead of through the woods.)

From Townsend St. (Rt. 113), take Mt. Lebanon St. about 0.75 miles past Reed Rd where Mt. Lebanon turns left. Look for the Nashoba Conservation Trust sign of the left. Park on the side of the road.
