Exciting Trips



Tall Ships 2007

Come and join Celebration Tours for a day in the “Ocean State” as you enjoy a cruise along Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor.  View the magnificent sailing vessels from around the world berthed at and around Goat Island.  This one day trip includes deluxe motorcoach transportation and a dinner buffet with music for dancing on board the Vista Jubilee.

Trip to Tanglewood

On this one day trip, offered through Celebration tours, you’ll enjoy a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum, lunch at the The Morgan House Restaurant and reserved Shed seating at Tanglewood for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Ice Cream Social

Make your own ice cream sundae and enjoy a night of music, socializing and playing games.   This year, we’re pleased to have the Indian Hill Big Band playing at the gazebo.

Crank-Up

This annual event features over 50 antique tractors and gas engines and has over 300 exhibitors planned for this year.  Fun for the whole family!

Summer Concerts Series


Enjoy a free concert every Tuesday night, starting at 7pm at the Bandstand on Town Field.  Join us for this year’s exciting lineup:

4th of July Celebration

Come and join the festivities with this annual, patriotic tradition! 

Ø       Craft Fair – on the Town Field 11am-4pm

Ø       Parade, starting at Town Hall at 12:30p (will continue down Main Street)

Ø       Bicycle Decorating Contest – Kids of all ages are invited to bring their decorated bikes to the town hall at 11:45 to participate in the bike procession.  All participants must wear a helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Ø       Chicken BBQ, on Town Field at 2:00pm

Ø       NEW “Battle of the Bands”, on the Town Field at 2:00pm

Ø       Music, Contests, Food, & Vendors, at Varnum Brook field beginning at 4:00pm

Ø       Fireworks at Varnum Brook field, begin at dusk

Summer Playground


This drop off program for children ages 5-14 features lots of fun-filled activities geared toward specific age groups.  Again this year, each age group will have its own activities, programs and counselors targeted to their interests and abilities in a safe, supervised environment.

 


Foxes

This group caters to children entering kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade.  Children learn new games, the basics of sports, make simple crafts and develop new friendships.

 

Eagles

This group focuses on a variety of activities geared toward children entering 3rd-6th grades.   Children play with friends, participate in sports and construct more challenging crafts.

 

Falcons

This group geared toward preteens entering 7th -9th grades features team building activities and allows more independence in a supervised environment.


Each day your child may participate in:

 

Ø       Sports – basketball, baseball, relay races, volleyball, soccer,          4-square, flag football, capture the flag

 

Ø       Arts & Crafts – drawing, painting, beads, gimp, tie-dying, sand art, face painting, potholders, friendship bracelets, stamping

 

Ø       Contests – balloon tosses, hula hoops, kite-making, obstacle courses, jump ropes, egg toss

 

Ø       On-site Special Programs – bicycle parade, pottery painting, a visit from a local sports team, ice cream social, costume day, cookout and variety show

 

Ø       Field Trips – includes local hikes as well as bus trips.  Past trips have been to Stoneham Zoo, Harvard Lanes Bowling, RollOn America, Davis Farm Mega Maze, Fenway Park

 

(Field trips are optional and require an additional fee.  T-shirts must be worn on field trips.  Activities are still available on the field.)

Tennis Lessons

These lessons, taught by a certified and licensed professional are fun for all ages whether you’re learning the basics or improving your game.  Levels will be further separated by age (if needed)

 

Dates:   July 9-13 (Beginners)

                July 16-20 (Intermediate)

SkyHawks

Multi-Sport

Each day, children learn skills for baseball, basketball and soccer in a fun, interactive way.  Through games, activities and drills – children develop new skills and new friends.

 

Tiny Hawks:

Ages 3-4

Ages 4-6

KidsArt

This 4 week session, geared toward ages 6-12, includes 4 art projects for your child to enjoy and take home.  You’ll learn sculpture, collage, sunprints, and decorating a T-shirt (please bring in your own shirt ).  Each week your child will have fun while being creative and enjoying learning something new.  All supplies are included (except t-shirt ).

8/3, 8/10, 8/17 & 8/24

Babysitting Training

This popular course, offered by the American Red Cross, gives 11-15 year olds, the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and school age children.  Class limit 10.

Adult Programs


Cardio Kick-n-Tone

This one hour class includes a warm-up, kickboxing combinations working both your upper and lower body, then moves into muscle toning with weights, bands and abdominal exercises for a total body workout.

 

Dates:  Tuesdays,

7/10, 7/17, 7/31, 8/7, 8/21, 8/28

Time:  5:45-6:45pm

  Yoga

Come learn the centering and calming benefits of yoga.  You’ll learn the complete cycle of Sun Salutations, foundational warm-up and breathing exercises, and asanas or postures, which lengthen and strengthen the body.  Please bring an exercise mat with you.

Walking Group

Join with others for a moderate to fast paced 2 mile walk that includes cardio drills utilizing the outdoors and your own body resistance.

 

Dates:  Thursdays,

Time:  9:15-10:15am

Cost:  $25 per person

Ballroom Dancing

Taught by a professional dance instructor, couples will learn the basics of ballroom and swing, such as the foxtrot, waltz, and more.

Quilting Classes

Come and quilt on Tuesday nights (while enjoying the concert).   

Projects include:

Where are programs held?

All programs are held at the Pepperell Community Center, located on Hollis Street at the rotary, unless otherwise noted.

 

How do I register?   

1. Fill out one registration form for each participant

2. Write a check for the total amount (payable to Town of Pepperell)

3. Mail to:

How do I know if I’m registered?   

You are enrolled in the program upon receipt of your registration form and payment.  You will only be notified if the program is full or cancelled.  All programs are based on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please register at least one week prior to the program date, unless otherwise noted.

 

Who do I contact about a new program idea? 

If you have a particular skill and would be interested in running a new program or if you have a suggestion for a future program please call 433-0324 or email  recreation@town.pepperell.ma.us

 

Who do I contact about renting the Community Center or reserving a field?

The community center and town fields are available for non-profit organizations and private rentals.  To reserve a specific date and for additional information, please contact Sue DeFillippo at

(978) 597-2505. 

 

What about bad weather?

Most programs run rain or shine, utilizing the indoors whenever possible.  In the event of lighting and thunderstorms, we will make every effort to reschedule.  When in doubt, call 433-0324 and a message will be on the machine regarding the program status.

 

Recreation Contacts:

Recreation meetings are held regularly on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 7-9pm at Town Hall.  While these meetings are open to the public, if you have a specific request, please contact Dave Priddle to be added to the agenda.
