We are pleased to offer these classes/events for the Winter of 2010. We hope you enjoy our classes and if you know of anyone with special skills to teach at our center, please contact Pepperell Recreation. As always, please feel free to contact us with any ideas you have for future classes or events. Enjoy!

We would like to remind everyone about our Inclement Weather Policy. If schools are cancelled, our daytime programs are also cancelled.

It's very important to register for a class in advance because if we do not have enough people enrolled to run the class we will cancel it. We apologize if this has affected you, but there is no way to know who is going to attend a class or not unless we have a completed registration form and payment.

CoCo Key Water Resort

We have no school on Monday, January 25 and Friday, April 2. Well, we have a great offer from CoCo Key West Water Resort in Fitchburg, MA. We have reserved the water park for $15.00/per person: it's normally $25.00 per person. Please do not delay in reserving this event; this is a great price with lots of fun for the kids and adults!!

Please note: you are not allowed to bring food into the park, but if you wish to pack food in your car and go out and come back, you can do that. Of course, there is also food for sale. Go to their website for more information: cocokeywaterresort.com

Nashoba Ski Area

Snowtubing - We have no school on January 25, and we have half days on February 8 and February 9 (rain date). Come and join us as we go snowtubing at Nashoba Ski Area. Fifteen lanes are serviced by four lifts and maintained by Nashoba's experienced grooming fleet, the park provides ideal tubing conditions for thrill seekers of all ages. The tubing park also consists of an on sight lodge where one can sit, relax, and enjoy all the amenities of its delicious snack bar, including a full-service bar and TV for your viewing pleasure.

Minimum requirements are 42" in height or 6 years old to participate. One person per tube. Doubles or group tubing may be allowed based on conditions. Please note that warmer weather or fresh snow (man-made or natural) make for slower tubing conditions!

Easter Egg Hunt

This year we are planning to have around 4,000 eggs spread out on the town field so be sure to bring the whole family for this annual tradition. We will have pictures with the Bunny, crafts food and prizes. Volunteers needed!

Creative Dance and Yoga (Ages 3-4)

Discover the magic of dance as you explore the different qualities of movement in relation to space, time, rhythm, force, and flow. Explore moving to a variety of music, dancing with colorful props, creating yoga shapes and dancing to stories in your adventures in movement and the imagination! Dance skills and vocabulary are taught with an emphasis on self-expression, creativity, and fun! Yoga postures and stories and relaxation techniques are integrated into the class to connect body, mind, and spirit. Parents are invited to attend the last class to see all that we have learned. Children should wear comfortable clothing. We dance barefoot.

ABC Follow Me (Two classes: ages walkers-2 & ages 2-4)

ABC Follow ME is a children's playtime and story hour combined with music and movement. Each week a different theme will be introduced and the story and activities will go along with each theme. Families will have the opportunity to engage in fun and physical activities together. They will play, run, jump, throw, catch and socialize in a playgroup environment. My mission is to promote healthy reading and exercise habits right from the start.

Circle Time with Miss Erin (Geared toward ages 1-5)

Parents join with their toddler or preschooler to listen to stories and make a craft related to the story. Each class features songs, games and simple activities that parents and children engage in together to encourage learning in a fun, interactive way. Children may also bring a snack and enjoy free play time.

Ed Morgan's The Children's Hour for Infants, Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers and their families. Come join us as we sing songs and have fun.

Introduction to Karate for boys and girls (ages 7-11**)

Students will learn the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate in a safe, fun environment.

This program is offered in 4-week segments. Please sign up for one or many sessions.

Manners, They Do Matter

Holidays, birthdays, outings... why not help your child learn how to write the thank you notes to their aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends properly? We are offering a class that will introduce your child to using their writing skills and using their good manners this holiday season! This is a two hour basic course covers everyday etiquette including telephone manners, good sportsmanship, mealtime manners and also, thank you notes. Give your child self-confidence in a social setting.

Home Alone

Home Alone is a class for children ages nine and eleven years old who will be unattended at home for short periods of time. Children learn telephone and door answering techniques, accident and fire prevention and first aid techniques. The class includes a variety of teaching methods, including active discussion, a video and role-playing. Snacks will be provided.

Babysitting Class

This class introduces children ages 11 to 14 to all aspects of babysitting. Beginning with the role of the babysitter, the course content includes first aid and choke saving techniques as well as mealtime, bedtime, diapering and discipline. Issues of contracts and ethics are also covered. If available, there will be a police presentation on safety issues including door and telephone answering techniques, and accident and fire prevention. Class participants are asked to bring to class a "babysitter entertainment kit" (specific directions for its preparation will accompany your class registration). Snacks are provided. The class meets once for 3 hours.

u, ur friendz, ur lyfe =) A Week of Self Discovery

for girls entering grades seven, eight or nine

A Week of Self Discovery is a unique experience, designed by a team of area experts to address the myriad of experiences and challenges facing teenaged girls entering the seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

A Week of Self Discovery features a variety of fun, interactive programs that could include nutrition, fashion, hair design, body image, skin care, yoga, art, poetry, organizational skills, fitness, relationships, negotiation, self defense, leadership, communications, creative dance, jewelry making, team challenges and more.

Presenters are all successful, positive role models, eager to educate future generations of girls on how to become a successful entrepreneur, business woman and community leader, to recognize their personal value and to make educated decisions about their life, their friends, their fashions, their future, their community, the environment and even their purchases.

Pilates with Lynn

Pilates is a movement class that incorporates concentration, breath, and the deep core muscles in your abdomen and back to strengthen and lengthen your entire body. The exercises are performed on a mat and in different positions. It is appropriate for all levels as modifications to the exercises are provided for beginner up to advanced. Pilates is an excellent exercise regime for teens, men, and women of all different fitness levels...come and give it a try, it will improve your posture, core strength and overall well being! Lynn is an Occupational Therapist practicing orthopedic rehabilitation for over 20 years. She is certified through Polstar Pilates and has trained with experts in the field from NYC. Certification is in both rehab and studio Pilates. She is a 20-year resident of Pepperell.

Yoga

Come learn the centering and calming benefits of yoga. You'll learn the complete cycle of Sun Salutation, foundational warm-ups, breathing exercises, asanas or poses which lengthen and strengthen the body.

Stability Ball Boot Camp

Come have fun in this one hour boot camp class. You will work the total body while balancing on a stability ball. This class not only increases core strength and balance but cardio endurance as well. Bring your own stability ball, yoga mat and enthusiasm. Keep in mind when you purchase your ball to get the proper one for your height.

Yoga Core

Using yoga moves and a core ball this one hour class works the whole body especially the core. This class is great for anyone wanting to increase all around strength and improve balance for such activities like cycling and everyday functional activities. Please bring a yoga mat.

Cardio Kick-N-Tone

This 90 minute class includes 45 minutes of kickboxing, burning calories and increasing cardio endurance. The next 45 minutes consists of total body toning using weights, tubes and a core ball to tone muscle and increase resting metabolism. Please bring and exercise mat and 3 to 5lbs weights.

Make Your Own Hand Lotions and Body Butters

Learn how easy it is to create your own all-natural hand and body lotions. During this 2-hour course, you'll learn how to create body butter, non-greasy hand and body lotion, and a dry-skin-formula body lotion to help you through our long New England winters. Using common kitchen equipment and simple ingredients like almond or olive oil, beeswax, and cocoa butter, you can create all-natural lotions that don't contain the parabens, petroleum, or other questionable ingredients found in commercial products. These lotions and body butters make wonderful holiday gifts for friends and family. You'll go home with recipes, complete instructions, a list of resources, gifting ideas, and a jar of body butter or hand lotion.

Middle School Dances for 6, 7, & 8th Graders

Each dance features the latest hits with snacks and drinks available to purchase. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Nissitissit Middle School during lunch prior to the dance. If you're unable to get a ticket, please put your name on the waiting list and you'll be guaranteed a ticket to the next dance. Everyone gets checked in for the night and will not be allowed to leave the building. There are no tickets sold at the door. Each dance has at least ten chaperones. If you're interested in chaperoning or have additional questions, please call 978-433-7856.

I know there is always talk about walk-ins at the dance - "can I buy a ticket at the door?" But just to reiterate: we do not allow walk-ins at any time. If your child would like a ticket to the dance, and if they did not get into the lottery, please call Gayle 978-433-7856. Your child would only get a number if in fact there are tickets available. The parent is requested to call me with their child's name and information that we need. For the last two years, we have not had any tickets available for the first two dances, but after that we had some tickets available.

Vacation Sports Camp

Looking for something to do during vacation week? Well why not hang out in the gym and play some fun gym games and meet some friends. Some of the games we will play are capture the flag, four corner soccer, pinnie tag, various dodge ball games, floor hockey and wiffle ball.

Tiny-Hawks - Soccer & Basketball

This multi-sport program was developed to give young children ages 4 to 6 a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Staff is trained to handle the specific needs of these young athletes.

Baseball for Ages 7-12

Skyhawks baseball takes the rich history of the game from Cooperstown to your town. Our progressional curriculum teaches the fundamentals of fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and base running all in a fun, positive environment by local Skyhawks staff. Specifically designed for beginner and intermediate players, all athletes regardless of skill level will learn new baseball skills along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork and responsibility. All participants will come away with new friends, new skills and a love for the game!

Spring Cycling 2010AdventuRides

Join us on a new bicycling adventure each week as we explore scenic country roads and enough civilized off-road routes to keep things interesting. We are mere mortals who believe "fitness is fun" - and that a bad day outdoors beats a good day indoors. We'll get great exercise and discover new places together. A hybrid or mountain bike in good working condition, an ANSI approved bicycle helmet, and the ability to ride 1½ to 2 hours are required. Starting locations vary each week, but will always be within ½ hour drive of Groton, Massachusetts. The first ride is free- come check us out. You will need to sign our waiver form before participating

Recreational rides: We will cycle approximately 10-12 miles at a leisurely pace adjusted to the desires and abilities of the group. These rides are scheduled for:

Mondays: 12:15 - 2:15pm,    Starting April 5

Fridays: 9:30 - 11:30am,    Starting April 9

Fitness rides: These rides are for our more fitness-oriented cyclists. We will cycle approximately 15-20 miles at a moderate pace with time for sightseeing. These rides are scheduled for:

Each section is a series of at least 8 weekly rides. There will be no rides during Massachusetts school vacations, major holidays, or really lousy weather. The cost is $80 for one ride a week or $120 for all the rides you can handle.

Monday ride dates: April 5, 12, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, June 7, 14, 21

Friday ride dates: April 9, 16, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4, 11, 18

Ride Leaders: Bill Brandt is an escapee from the world of high tech. He owns several non-traditional bikes, including one that fits in the tiny trunk of his sports car. Carole Greenfield has been riding with friends and groups for over 20 years. She wants to share her enthusiasm for exercise, fresh air and scenery with others. All programs are held at the Pepperell Community Center, located on Hollis Street at the rotary, unless noted.

How do I register?
By mail - Please mail your check (payable to Town of Pepperell) and form to: Pepperell Recreation Programs One Main Street, c/o Town Hall Pepperell, MA 01463

How do I know if I'm registered?
You are enrolled in the program upon receipt of your registration form and payment. You will only be notified if the class is full or cancelled. All programs are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register at least one week prior to the program date, unless otherwise noted.

Inclement Weather Policy
If schools are cancelled, our daytime programs are also cancelled. For evening programs, you can check this website or call 978-433-0324 and a message will be on the machine regarding the program status.
