  2. Pepperell to Launch a Community Emergency Response Team
  3. Pepperell's Management Agency is planning on launching a Community Emergency Response Team or “CERT” in late spring/early summer of this year. A CERT is a FEMA sanctioned program that uses trained volunteers to help supplement regular emergency response departments: police, fire, EMS, etc. The program will be managed under the town’s Emergency Management Agency.
  4. After completion of a 20-hour nighttime training program, CERT members can be deployed to assist with non-firefighting needs at fire scenes, traffic control with the Auxiliary Police, search activity for missing persons, emergency shelter operations and more. Regular in-service training will be required as well as departmental meetings. Members will be issued identifying clothing and safety gear as well as be equipped with basic emergency response provisions. There is no cost to individuals who participate.
  5. To be qualified as a CERT member you must be a town resident who is at least 18 years of age and in good physical health. Your own reliable transportation is a must as well as the ability to pass a CORI check. If you have a strong interest in public service and can be committed to fulfilling your obligations for meetings, training, scheduled events and emergency call outs, this may be for you. Previous first responder or medical experience is a plus but not required.
  6. If interested you should plan to attend an informational session on May 2nd, 2019 to be held at the Lawrence Library in Pepperell from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you there.
