[ARCHIVED] New Volunteer Opportunity - Pepperell's Community Emergency Response Team

Pepperell’s Emergency Management Agency is looking for candidates for our Community Emergency Response Team or “CERT”.  CERT is a FEMA sanctioned program that uses trained volunteers to help supplement regular emergency response departments: police, fire, EMS, etc.  After completion of a 20-hour nighttime training program, CERT members assist in running our emergency shelter operations as well as provide support for public emergency and non-emergency events.  They can be deployed to assist with traffic control with the Auxiliary Police, non-firefighting needs at fire scenes, search activity for missing persons, town event support and more.  Regular monthly meetings/in-service training will be required.  Members will be issued identifying clothing and basic safety gear as well as be equipped with emergency response provisions.  There is no cost to individuals who participate, but there is an expected time commitment.

To be qualified as a CERT member you must be a town resident who is at least 18 years of age and in good physical health.  This includes the potential for standing for long periods at assigned locations, moving shelter supplies and equipment, aiding people who might need an assist, and tolerating inclement weather conditions when called out.  You have to have your own reliable transportation, go through a basic screening process, and pass a CORI background check in addition to the basic training course.  If you have a strong interest in public service and can be committed to fulfilling your obligations for meetings, training, scheduled events and emergency call outs, this may be for you.  Previous first responder or medical experience is a plus but not required.

Additional information can be found at:  Community Emergency Response Team | Pepperell, MA - Official Website

Questions can be sent to emd@town.pepperell.ma.us.  If interested, you should request an application form.  Viable candidates will be invited to an information session to help you achieve a better understanding of the function and commitment.
