Amphibian AlertTonight’s mild temperatures and the prediction of rain means we should see the beginning of the annual amphibian migration. This is the time of year when many species of salamanders and wood frogs make their annual migration from upland wooded areas to vernal pools to mate. This journey may include a road crossing, where teams of volunteers are often seen “crossing” animals to prevent a sure death from being run over. For additional details, contact the Conservation Commission office at conservation@town.pepperell.ma.us or visit: http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dfg/dfw/natural-heritage/vernal-pools/
Hummingbird MigrationHummingbirds are on their annual migration. To learn more about hummingbirds, to find out when we will see hummingbirds in our community, and to view the migration map, visit: http://www.hummingbirds.net/.
BearsGuess whose awake? It’s time to take down bird feeders to protect the bears. Bears are attracted to suet and black oil sunflower seeds and encouraging bears could result in human-bear interactions that may not play favorably for the bear
